Writing essay is an important part of your IELTS evaluation. You need write an essay with a proper flow of sentences. You must use topic sentences as well as supporting sentences. It is a good idea to use a concluding sentence in each and every paragraph. It does not increase the word count but a logical closing of the paragraph as well.
The topic sentence is a like a heading which we used to write when we wrote essays in our school. Here in IELTS, we just write topic sentence instead of heading. The topic sentence is the essence of the paragraph. In other words, we can say that the topic sentence is the introduction of the paragraph.
Sometimes, the topic sentence can be in the middle of the paragraph. But the best practice is to use it in the starting of the paragraph.
Now, once you are done with the topic sentence, you need to support it by writing 3 to 4 supporting sentences or to justify the main idea. You should give some supporting information or facts which support your idea or the topic sentence.
While you are writing, you must include signposting or transition words. These are also called connectors. Use of signposting words shows that you are proficient at English language and willing to write more and want to give a clear view about your ideas.
Once you are done with your writing, you must check for spelling errors. For each spelling error, you will be penalized. Therefore, it is very important to make sure that your spellings are correct.
In case you are writing British spellings, write only British ones or if you are writing American spellings, write American ones only.
Use a great book while you are preparing for IELTS exam. I would recommend English bites by Manish Sharma. This book has a lot of vocabulary with meanings and explanations given in the footnotes. You read and understand this book on daily basis. It will surely help you in performing better in your IELTS exam in all the sections.
Practice makes perfect. Practice daily. It would be very good if you have someone to check your work for spelling and grammatical errors. It is easier to learn from your mistakes. So, never be afraid of mistakes.
A very important thing to keep in mind while you are preparing for IELTS writing or speaking section. Use only formal ways of writing. Avoid any use of informal structures. Formal means you should not use abbreviations and no use of 1st and 2nd pronoun or possessives until you are giving your personal opinion. You must write a generalized opinion.
